Coffee Origins

About This Coffee

Edinson Argote is a passionate young coffee producer whose journey into specialty coffee is both inspiring and deeply rooted in resilience. Orphaned at the age of three and raised by his sister, Edinson left home at 11 to work and support himself. At 18, he joined the army, completing 18 months of service.

Afterward, his introduction to coffee came through his cousin’s buying station in Acevedo-Huila, where he loaded and unloaded coffee. It was here that his curiosity about cupping and sensory analysis sparked. He began taking courses to sharpen his skills and dove headfirst into the world of specialty coffee.

Edinson went on to work at some of Colombia’s most innovative farms, including the renowned Granja Paraiso 92, where he eventually became head of quality and processing. Driven by a dream to create something of his own, he and his partner purchased land and founded La Quebradita. Today, the farm is home to a variety of exotic cultivars like Yellow Bourbon, Bourbon Sidra, Ombligon, Eugenoides, Chiroso, Laurina—and the star of this release, Gesha.

Gesha (or Geisha) coffee is renowned for its exceptional and complex flavor profile, characterized by floral, fruity, and tea-like notes. It's also known for its high cost and the meticulous care required for its cultivation. Edinson’s version is processed using what he calls an Advanced Natural method. This involves a 72-hour natural fermentation, followed by partial drying for 12 days. When the cherries reach 20% humidity, they’re rehydrated and introduced to a selected beer or wine yeast, fermented in small tanks (just 80–100 kg each), and then dried naturally on raised beds.

This coffee is stunning from start to finish. It reminds us stylistically of his Caturra Chiroso we served in the past, but with a bit more complexity and florality. The flavors come through very pronounced and gets more complex as it cools.

We roasted this coffee hot and fast up front, with minimal development time, to highlight its nuanced character. It’s a beautiful example of thoughtful processing and a producer in full stride. We hope you enjoy this coffee as much as we do.
