About This Coffee
There are coffees we work with because they’re reliable and then there are coffees we keep coming back to because of the people behind them.
We first met David Lopez on his farm in El Socorro, Honduras in 2025. We were on an origin trip to Honduras with Benjamin Paz and Kevin Bohlin, exploring the country and its wonderful coffee for the first time. What started as a visit, quickly turned into a familial relationship. After seeing his farm, washing station, and drying rooms, his wife made us a bowl of caldo de res. It was one of the best meals we had all trip. We don’t share a common language, so most of our conversations happen through broken spanish and a translator app, but somehow that’s never been a barrier. David is one of the kindest, most generous people we’ve met in coffee. He's always smiling, and always welcoming.
After our time at the farm had ended, he handed us a bag of pickled jalapeños grown right there on the same land as his coffee. We couldn’t bring them home, but we weren’t about to leave them behind either. So we asked Kevin Bohlin at Bonaventure Coffee Project, who happened to be traveling back with airline status to bring it back with him. He brought them to San Francisco and shipped them to us. It’s one of those small, unforgettable moments that says everything about who David is. Ever since that visit, he's visited us at our shop in Los Angeles, and we've hung out at World of Coffee strung together by that one visit in 2025.
We’ve worked with David’s coffees for a few years now, most often as a blending component in our Vivid Espresso where it brings structure, sweetness, and balance. But this lot stood out enough that we wanted to showcase it on its own.
Grown in the high elevations of western Honduras, this coffee reflects both place and process. This coffee is clean, composed, and deeply comforting. In the cup, we taste nougat, golden raisin, baked apple, and cocoa powder. It’s the kind of profile that feels familiar in the best way: soft, sweet, and easy to come back to every day.
We approach this coffee with a slightly longer, slower development in roasting to draw out its confectionary sweetness, rounding out the sugars while keeping the cup smooth and free of harshness or bitterness. The result is a coffee that feels complete without trying too hard.
This is what we think of as a true daily driver: approachable, dependable, and quietly special.
