This coffee delivers a delightful fruity bouquet at first sip. Expect a soft sweetness with a silky body, as we're picking up some tangerine qualities as the cup cools. The honeysuckle florality meets the lovely black currant tartness in this year's offering from Othaya Farmers’ Cooperative. Look for dense flavors and a round mouthfeel where sweetness is carried throughout the cup.

About This Coffee

We're really excited to bring this back to our line up for the second year through our friends at Bonaventure Project. Othaya Farmers’ Co-operative Society Limited is situated about 150 km North-West of Nairobi in Othaya Town, Othaya is sandwiched between Mt. Kenya and the Aberdare Ranges, at an altitude of 1850 meters (approximately 6000 feet) above sea level.

The Othaya Farmers’ Cooperative Society was registered in 1956 as a coffee marketing society with an initial membership of 250 farmers. The Thuti wetmill was the first washing station to be set up in 1958 and is therefore the oldest Othaya wetmill. It is situated in Thuti ward and is located next to Othaya Town. The production for Thuti wetmill has remained low due to the encroachment of Othaya Town residential developments in the area.

Coffee from Thuti always delivers the dynamic and classic flavors we come to look for in Kenyan Coffees from the Nyeri region but also its own distinctive terroir and character drawn from its leadership and management. Thuti delivers all that coffee lovers are looking for in a Kenyan coffee from its bright lemon-lime soda character to crunchy sweet currant flavors. This coffee is a stunner.

The Thuti Factory is the founding factory of the Othaya Farmers Cooperative Society which now boasts 19 active factories. Othaya has stood the test of time more so than any other cooperative society through the integrity and generous strength of its leadership. A creative infrastructure allows them to manage their own milling and marketing with remarkable quality, consistency, and value driven sustainability.

On the roast side of things, we've approached this coffee with some intense heat in the beginning for a fast and light roast to help accentuate the lovely acidity and florality of this Kenyan. At this roast level, we're experiencing a ton of citric acidity and complexity with a pleasant black currant tartness and sweetness.
